Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) teaches that how we think (cognition),how we feel (emotion), and how we act (behavior) are all interconnected. How we think greatly determines our feelings and behavior. In such, negative and unrealistic thought patterns cause us distress and suffering. The way we perceive or interpret situations or events become distorted which then results in behaviors that we may not have intended if we would have been able to view the situation from a different, healthier perspective. CBT’s goal is to assist people to become more aware of their negative thought patterns and distorted interpretations and view them from alternative ways of thinking. Thus, by changing the way that we react when under distress, results in a more positive and healthier outcome.
